Four versions of high contrast building

[Compaq]

I thought this old house would fit for some high contrast monochromes. I wanted to give you the feeling you get when you see those haunted houses. What do you think? Taken around f/3-f/5, and around 8-20 seconds, depending on the aperture. All ISO-100. Some noise added in PS.

I don't know... I'm really "iffy" on these shots.

The foreground seems a bit busy and some of the windows seem a bit overexposed which actually makes them look out of focus.

I like the idea you were going for; but I'm just not sure you quite got it!

I can understand that these won't touch everyone, but I'm sort of happy with them. I can see how the blown out windows are bugging you Ideally, I should have tried to not get them so blown out that the black frames are gone. All white windows were my intentions, but a few are too blown, I agree.

Compaq - I like the images for different reasons. There is a vibrancy captured that is opposite of what I expect with a haunted house. Guests are being entertained, maybe being greeted at the doorway, a couple that have stepped out under the trees on the lawn. There is more life captured in these images than death or loneliness...

I actually like number 2. It gives me the feeling of hiding amongst the daffodils watching the house. They're not conventional compositions and the B&W conversion is weird, but I think number 2 (for me) is unusual and quite intriguing and works for me.

I think you hit your target of giving a haunted house feel. The B&W conversion almost makes it look like one of those ghost shows where they just shoot everything with nightvision to make it look scary!

I really like the angles and the subject however I agree with Forkie-the BW conversion is weird..I can't put my finger on it. They are pretty cool thou!

Thanks, guys, for commenting! I can understand how the lights give you associations of life. Maybe what I imagine is some wizard going nuts with killing curses in there Either way, fun to see people seeing both life and hauntedness in these! As for life, maybe some sort of Cinderella thing where she is hiding in the flowers looking up at the ball.. Dunno, but I take it as a success that you seem to like at least one of them
