Freaky Smoker - Selfportrait

Hi all..

Finally I got the 580exii flash, stand and umbrella. I am kind of spending alot of time learning on it and taking pictures of myself (the only model available now )..

I don't like the idea of posting selfportraits but I would like to hear you opinion.

I'm sorry that I can't help w/ the lighting of your shot. I did want to tell you I loved your expression!! You got a giggle out of me......so it's a win to me for that.

Very harsh shadowing, which isn't always bad, but I find this a little too much. If you slide your flash angle a little closer to the camera, it will shed some light onto the other side of your face, but still have a dramatic shadow.

I don't know, I'm still new to strobing, but that's what I would do.

Hi mishele.. I am really new to flashes and this is clearly not a flatering lighting for normal portraits..

As in the title, I wanted it to be dramatic and freaky (funny in a way).. So your giggle made it a winner to me too

Yeah very true, I actually retouched more in photoshop to get this result.. Maybe overdone, but the goodside is it is on the dramatic side

i personally like the shot - i think the harsh shadow adds drama to the picture, mystery of some sort.

A bit more smoke would add to it though. Make it seem a bit dingier and darker, as if in some back room down an alley better left untouched...

I think the smoke works. The dark room, sneering lips, white t-shirt, cigarette, smoke... It evokes an image.

Anyways, I still like it.
