Just in case you were all thinking of doing it and haven't done it yet...take 30 mins and get 'er done!

A little over a year ago, my HD crashed and I hadn't backed up for the longest time. I lost a few thousand images. I was able to recoup some from the cards, but not all.

So don't let that happen to you! External storage is cheap these days. Get a 1TB drive and back them up.

It's always best to have it in 2-3 places, but at least start with 1 external.

:hugs:

My Time Machine just finished a backup just over an hour ago. I also keep my best images backed up on my iDisk on MobileMe. I learned the hard way though. My computer crashed a while back and I lost about 100GBs of my music. I almost cried.

Music can be redownloaded... losing thousands of images from trips and what is much harder to replace.
But yeah, I feel your pain..or felt it.

True...but what I was really saying was that after having that happen, I keep two backups. One onsite and one offsite. After losing all that music, I've been really strict on myself about backups. It's sad that it came down to losing everything, but hey...live and learn...I couldn't imagine what it felt like to lose pictures. Heartbreaking...

Automated backups ... a network file server is handy ... burn to DVD frequently ...

I use a Windows Home Server for automatic backups ... it reduces my brain usage !!!

I have written scripts that backup my data weekly to my Server which has 4tb

I have several layers of backups (for my photography, music production, and career related work):

1. Time Capsule for hourly backups (in case of deleted/corrupted file)
2. DVD's for project backup, per week (in case of hard drive and/or Time Capsule failure)
3. Offsite hourly backups to a cloud service (in case of fire/disaster/theft)

If I loose all 3 backups, I have way bigger problems (as probably we all do) than missing my pretty pictures.

Two types of computer users... those who've experienced a hard drive faliure, and those who are about to.
