From auto to manual mode in 5 steps

Am I the only one that finds it sketchy when a new member comes on and tries to "Teach" people something in a link while at the same time blocking me from seeing their forum profile?

Really not a good way to instill trust in the very people you're trying to get to click on your blog.

Yeah right! Think whatever you want.
Frankly, I resisted clicking on your blog link because we see many times where someone (mostly new to this site) want us to click on something to increase their click count.

We have some options here, namely; ignore, click, or report (as spam).

I chose to keep you engaged in the forum by asking for the steps rather than report your post as spam.

I'm glad you have thick skin.

My 2¢ worth: The post is simply a veiled attempt at plugging (re; advertising) your blog.

Once again typical of one who has been caught with his foot in his mouth
Please explain how I was caught with my foot in my mouth? I STIL stand by the perception that it looks sketchy for a new member to be posting links all the while hiding their identity from the forum.

You're the one that got all defensive.

I can understand that many have the intention to spam. But it wasn’t my intention at all. As a matter of fact I don’t require anyone to register to read my posts and I don’t have ads in my blog.

It wasn’t a veiled attempt, it was precisely what I did. Now tell me what’s wrong with that, apart from being a violation of the rules of the forum and for what I have already apologized for privately. What is so damn wrong from wanting people to visit your blog so they can read something that could be of benefit for them. I have no ads and no registration is required. I’m not selling anything I’m just offering my free knowledge and experiences that it might not be much to some but still it’s free.

Simple. When someone says “Chill out” that’s a defense mechanism from the brain when that someone feels he is being put in a difficult spot. And the last thing I’m trying to do is to change your mind of whatever it is you think. I couldn’t care less. And of course I have to defend myself when something I'm related to is being attacked.

Chill out was in reference to your defensiveness. I wasn't in a tough spot at all. You like to infer your own meaning on things a lot.

If you perceive what I said as an attack then again that's what you perceived, not what I meant.

Anyhow I'm letting this go as we'll never come to an amiable conclusion.

I first suggest to do look up for the concept of the exposure triangle. Second to pick out the pictures taken in auto mode which ones they like most and to take note of the ISO, aperture and SS. Third to try and recreate the pictures from the second step in aperture priority and/or shutter priority. Fourth to recreate the pictures in complete manual mode and fifth to change individual settings (aperture, SS or ISO) to get a different look for example more or less depth of field or a brighter looking image, etc.

I go on to explain that I don't think that shooting in manual mode makes you a better photographer it just gives more flexiblity in the creative process and that most of the time composition is more important. That's the way I did it and it might not be the best way to do it but it made it fun and less of a task, at least for me.

My first proper camera didn't have an auto mode just Av. So I learnt with that.
It was also entirely manual focus and has the same WB/ISO set till the film was changed.

I still work in Av most of the time, switching to S (Tv) when the shutter speed is more important than DOF (prop aircraft mainly). There are occasions where M mode works better, but most of the time the semi automatic modes give the same effective control with less hassle.

My most used manual mode is still manual focusing.

FWIW I learned long ago the hazards of following links from people I don't know. I frequently won't follow unexplained links from those I do know either. I can't understand why there's even the option to limit people from viewing your profile. Yes perhaps there should be the option to limit parts of the profile, but on the most part it's for information about yourself you wish to SHARE with others on the forum. IIRC there's even a spot to post a link to your blog there :-)
