From the walk today

[Civchic]

I have been trying all weekend to get one of these guys (doesn't help to have a 4-year-old pulling you away from the "deadly" bees all the time). This is the closest I've got. They sit and hover until just before I nab focus, and then buzz away.

Also these pretty birds:

And a levitating blue jay:

BIF (bug in flight) and never easy, so well done. Heron is a good BIF Mel and love the Cardinals you have and the Bluejays. Excellent timing on the Bluejay, just lifting off.

All the best Mel, keep them coming.

Danny.

I couldnt decide which one I like best, the bee or the jay=D

Thanks for sharing!

Don't beat yourself up Civ, the first one is a great shot. When I see one of these fly I don't even attempt to get a shot, you've at least got one in focus
It actually looks pretty cool with the shadows. my fav shot is the Red one, don't know what it's called but we don't have them here.

Thanks Raj! I was surprised when I saw it (it did need quite a bit of sharpening, LOL) because I thought I'd never get one, and I love the shadow.

The red guy is a Northern Cardinal. They're very pretty, and have a very loud and unique call.

It's a great set. I loved #2, but that bluejay... wow. What a shot. I kept blowing up the photo and checking for wires. Lol
