Haven't heard this saying in a long time. The title of the thread I mean.

Not sure that's the best way for a coach to monitor his student athletes' online behavior. Can't he just look at their pages? my Facebook page shows me more than enough of what people post, and all I have to do is look at someone's page to see what they've been commenting on and their list of friends.

Seems a little paranoid, it's a matter of getting character players as much as possible and giving them some credit for having a little sense. If they don't I think you'd figure it out soon enough.

Although I suppose if players really want to hide and do stuff they know they shouldn't be doing they'd figure out how to set up their own fake accounts or whatever... and if they manage to get themselves in trouble then they'll have to be dealt with accordingly, it'll probably be found out at some point (in my experience teaching, somebody always blabs lol - really, they talk, you gotta have enough of a relationship to keep tabs on what's going on as much as possible).

Sad on all counts. Unfortunately, there is so much sexually charged crimes reported and not reported coming out of college campuses, I guess Coach Mom, or Coach I-Don't-Trust-My-Players, finds it necessary. Or maybe it's Coach I-Want-to-Keep-My-Job, and similar to all the disclaimers lawyers write for the products you buy, this is another defense against getting fired because one of his stupid ball players is acting like a stupid ball player.

Since when is it a coaches job to monitor any of his players activities off the field.

If the players have such weak moral fiber that they have to be monitored, perhaps the criteria by which players are selected for the team needs to be re-evaluated.

Well considering a good portion of those athletes are there on the colleges dime, and considering that they are a big time representatives of that college or university, as well as considering some of the things that happened in the last few years it actually makes sense.

Excellent and recent example: Baylor Bears. Coach Art Briles, University President Ken Starr, and athletic director Ian McCaw all took hits on that little oppsie.

You people seemed surprised that this goes on. We were told a long time ago and even have in place regulations regarding on like social media activities. This is very common for organizations like LEO, Fire Departments etc.

As long as you win, nothing else matters and people look the other way and cover for you. I am sure that the woman who was raped by the Stanford swimmer, wishes that the coach had monitored the swimmers social media accounts. Et cetera.

They are college ADULTS, and this would be a good time for them to realize that!
Since Penn State fiasco, I truly believe the colleges are MUCH more interested in the $$$ than in its students. This is protecting an investment instead of their student.
