Sunset clematis. The bunnies gave it a really hard prune in the fall and it completely disappeared. I thought it might be lost, but it has come back.

Looks great. Beautiful blooms!

I really like clematis, but have given up trying to get one going in my North-facing front yard, close to the house. Tried 3 different varieties that claimed to tolerate shade as long as it got some full sun, which this area does in the late afternoon.

All 3 died, so this spring I planted a climbing hydrangea instead and it's going like gangbusters. It apparently doesn't bloom until the 3rd year in ground, but that's okay. Just live!

I have found clematis to be very diva-esque. Some that I planted have completely disappeared for two years then reemerged, others grow well then die off just before blooming either due to a bunny pruning or clematis wilt and some are just straggly looking. But when they do eventually take root and reach year 3, they are one of my favorite plants. I decided to play the numbers game and just keep planting 1-2 clematis each year and if even half make it to full bloom it looks like i have a green thumb 🤣🤣🤣 My latest project is trying to propagate some of my favorites. It’s a WIP but none have died yet so I’m hopeful for some success.

Your neighbors must love walking by your yard - absolutely charming! Here's hoping the storms do minimal damage.

Thanks for the info on clematis. I've only planted one at a time, and in the same location (give or take 4-6") in front of the trellis we put up. Now that the climbing hydrangea is doing well, I'm sure one of those 3 that are lurking nearby will decide to struggle through.

They do like to be shaded by and to climb up other plants. I have one that uses a rose of sharon as a trellis. I’ll be removing that rose of Sharon in the fall. I don’t know if the clematis will survive it lol.

It's been raining so between showers I grabbed the camera for some general status photos -- second photos of some of the veggies.

After the cauli and broccoli season it becomes the tomato garden and the net go's back over till there's enough fruit to share with the birds here Ysarex.
