For a minute I thought "must be shots from around Chernobyl where the ground is always warm."

But seriously this site is overrun with garden pornographers. Shocking!

Today I planted zinnia seeds, the rest of the gladiolus bulbs and some callas (in pots). Cut the grass, got the patio umbrellas out, got some of the grow bags filled and topped off last yearā€™s raised beds. Tomorrow planting most of my dahlia tubers.

Hereā€™s a nicer pic of my cherry blossom tree.

What a gorgeous tree šŸ¤©

I would describe it more of a light Rose fragrance.
If you can smell them without sticking your nose in them then theyā€™re not knockouts. Most roses can be propagated with some rooting powder I think. Have not tried that yet. Iā€™m quickly running out of available planting space. Iā€™ll need to expand the beds in the fall.

First hummingbird sighting tonight. A cute little male ruby throated.
We supposedly have Baltimore orioles being sighted. I enjoyed the few I had last year, so I put out my feeder today. They're very similar to hummingbird feeders, but the nectar ports are larger.

I put hummingbird nectar in it - will hold off setting out any jelly until I know they're here. The hummers can sip from the oriole feeders, but the orioles can't sip from the smaller hummer feeders.

It's a fun time of year! :)

Last year's first shot:

Our mountain laurel, in bloom. I know it's really rhododendron, but that's what everyone here calls it.

Rhododendron catawbiense,

I was about to say, "wow those mountain laurels look sooooo different than the ones here!"

It's so pretty šŸ˜

Need some creative gardening structure advice. Iā€™m planning to use upside down tomato cages to support some of my dahlias that are in grow bags. Forming them into a sort of obelisk and securing the top, maybe with a zip tie. Going to paint it black so it blends. Iā€™m trying to figure something small to go on the top to make it look less DIY before the flowers grow in. Suggestions? @cgw you made some of these out of wood right? I canā€™t find the photo. What did you use for the top?

Leave enough of the tops sticking up to form a cup and put a gazing ball there, or disco ball. Cover the zip tie with some ribbon or such. Have fun and make it showy folk art like.
