Need a suggestion for an wvergreen shrub that gets no more than 4’ x 4’ and can tolerate full sun. Any ideas?
For those height restrictions, look for something that offers a dwarf varietal. Full sun shouldn't be much of an issue for most evergreens.

Man, frost again this morning!!! Diggin' in some of the antique rose haul at the family ruin late next week. Tender stuff is still doing sleepovers in the sheds. Much truth in the old Ontario saying that Victoria Day(May 19) or thereabouts is the planting time for annuals and anything delicate. Winter just wouldn't let go this year!

Mother’s Day is our bookmark here for last frost date and Memorial weekend is veggie planting time.

Haven't been out with the camera, so I decided to get some images with the iPhone. We've had a lot of rain, but the plants seem to be liking it.

3 Not a garden plant, but this orchid has come back for the fifth or sixth year in a row, so I must be doing something right.

Do you see the purple angel with the heart over its head, or is it just me? lol
Oh, wow! I didn't see it until you pointed it out, and now I can't un-see it. Ain't nature grand.

I love all the raindrops on the outdoor flowers. I'm sure the rain is very welcome!

Month behind up in the True North Strong and Free. Winter overstayed its welcome in central-south Ontario. Passing light frosts persist but dangerous only to the tenderest annuals--another week or so? Doing a old rose plant-a-thon at the family ruin tomorrow--great antique varieties much loved by my late, sainted MIL. Hoping to grab some work-in-progress pix.

Got a yard of compost delivered and had to find time to get it all distributed before the coming rains! Buckets and my Gorilla cart for the win!

Has anyone here planted Ninebark (Physocarpus)? They are part of the rose family. I been looking to get a several of them to be used as bank stabilization as they grow fast and have extensive root systems.

I'm not familiar with ninebark, but after reading up I've added it to my list of candidates for planting on the east side of the house.

Here are a list of other plants you can use to stabilize the bank as well, if you want some variety.
  • Willows (Salix spp.) – Excellent for erosion control and wildlife habitat.
  • Red Osier Dogwood (Cornus sericea) – Thrives in wet conditions and helps stabilize soil.
  • Cattails (Typha spp.) – Grow densely, filter pollutants, and prevent erosion.
  • Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) – A vine that helps bind soil and provides food for birds.
  • Lobelia Cardinalis (Cardinal Flower) – Adds beauty while supporting pollinators.
