First blooms from another "new" old rose late-Spring planted at the family ruin: "The Fairy," a dwarf shrub rose variety. Tons of buds! Fun bringing beds back to life with old varieties and restoring a flower garden that gave great pleasure to the clan.

Yesterday was a banner day for butterfly visitors in the backyard. In addition to the Monarch, I had a Red Admiral - first I've seen up here!

The Eastern tiger Swallowtail came back but wanted to dive into the petunias this time:

And I finally got a visit from a Black Swallowtail!

Beautiful. Butterflies have been a bit scarce here so far. I expected to have seen more by now…

Mid July garden.

Endless Summer hydrangea loving the spot I moved it to in 2023. She’s covered in blooms and they are a gorgeous true blue.

Tall phlox - smells amazing!

these two still going strong. If you only plant one clematis, make it a Warsaw Nike! So many blooms and they have lasted for weeks and still putting out buds.

Diva dahlias need a break from the hot sun in the afternoon.

And finally… my houseplants have been loving their summer vacation on the deck. Amazing what a little natural light will do for them.

I really like the color of blue hydrangeas. The ones planted in my front garden are pink, and I wish the homeowner would have realized that blue looks great in the garden and especially in front of red brick! :soapbox: Anyway, congrats on such a perfect color!

Does your Warsaw Nike clematis prefer shade or will it tolerate some sun? I'd love to try another one in my front yard, but it's a tough area.

In other news, I found another Monarch cat! This one's much smaller than the fat one I found a couple weeks ago. A solid inch - maybe the 2nd instar?

Picture is a little blurry; it's windy today.

I cut off the whole branch and stuck it, along with another one with a few blooms, in a tall glass of water. (Wish I'd rescued the fat guy like this.)

Hard to see him but he's safe in the cage. Will be adding new cuttings daily.

It may have been blue when planted. The soil may be very alkaline which turns them pink. You can turn the hydrangea whatever color you want by adjusting the ph of your soil. I turned my other blue hydrangea purple by adding lime around the base of the plant. If they’re pink and you want them blue you have to amend the soil to make it more acidic.
