Gary Mitchell is a regional sculptor who lives in my neighborhood. I walk past his house weekly. Gary has a pedestal in his yard where he displays recent work which is almost always larger than life aluminum female figures. Normally the sculpture on display will change about twice a year, but recently Gary's been busy. This one showed up in April:
And then a month later we got this one which is current:
I love this new one -- that hair! I also love the contrast of Gary's work in the neighborhood in general. St. Louis is a Catholic city and my neighborhood is Catholic ground zero and Italian which means Jesus get's second billing to Mary. A sculpture in the yard here isn't unusual -- in fact it's almost a requirement. To appreciate the contrast, this is the sculpture in the yard next door to Gary's house:
