The boss tends to favor zone appropriate perennials in the garden but this year she caved and bought a tropical that can't survive our winters -- mandevilla. I had to buy a couple bags of dirt (there's something just wrong about buying dirt) and get it planted in a big pot and she plans to try and bring it in over winter and keep it alive. In the meantime it sure is pretty.

It's either that or move to Southern California.

Hmmm..... southern Cal. or buy a bag of dirt, you're not making it easy.

Make a compost bin, you'll have dirt eventually if you start now.

We have a huge compost bin -- doing that since the day we bought the house. The neighbors also know to bring their grass clippings and dump them in our yard/garden and every Fall we drive through the neighborhood and pickup everyone's bagged leaves -- can't get enough, but it all goes on the garden.
