Nice image - happy to see springtime photos. Good use of HDR
 
For me, the best application of HDR is the sublet approach. I would not have guessed that was a HDR shot.

But the title confused me...in my industry, "gerbers" are a type of computer file used to manufacture printed circuit boards.
 
I guess the proper term is "Gerberas." Or maybe "Gerber Daisies."

Gerbera L. is a genus of plants in the Asteraceae. It was named in honour of German botanist and medical doctor Traugott Gerber who travelled extensively in Russia and was a friend of Carl Linnaeus. Gerbera is native to tropical regions of South America, Africa and Asia. Wikipedia

I will often do an HDR, and then blend it with the original image to get just the right amount of range to put everything in proper exposure. I agree with you that a light touch is more attractive than overcooked images.
