I'm trying to locate anyone around Henderson, KY who teaches a good introduction to photography course. I've just sent off an email inquiry to the local community college although I'm not holding my breath they'll get back to me with any kind of positive response.

Other than the college, where can you guys suggest I look for some kind of similar class that might be taught in Henderson? Maybe the public library? Stretching here, but would there be a photographic society there?

Thanks. I'm all ears.

You might try camera stores... some offer beginner classes. I'm sure quality varies immensely.

The local community college will probably NOT get back to you, but will instead expect you to go to their on-line or printed course listings to see what they have. I looked here for a few minutes, but HCC does not seem to be very art-oriented.Courses

There might be another educational outlet in the area. I did a search on "photography" at the HCC website, and it came up with no class listings.

Henderson County Public Library has a digital photography workshop. The ones listed are before Christmas, but you could contact them and see if they'll be offered after the new year as well. Or give it to her early.

Check with a few local professional photographers; they may know who is teaching local courses, if there are any available.

If all else fails, maybe an online class? I've taken quite a few classes from ed2go--haven't taken any photography courses from them, but I've taken classes on several software programs. I'm currently enrolled in an Intermediate Photoshop class, and then starting a WordPress class next month. They're good, because they are six-week classes; you read the lessons, then you have "assignments" to do and a quiz for each lesson, as well as a final exam. There's a discussion area where you can ask questions, etc. It's not as good as a physical classroom, but it's way better than just online tutorials.
