Thanks so much for also posting a shot of the set up. It helps newbies like me learn a lot.

I like #1 the most. I feel that perhaps you could also increase the DOF a little bit more so that the details of the zoom ring are not blurred.

If you spend a little time you can make your box look nice. I made one several months ago. While not the best, it looks ok. I used an razorblade to cut so I got straighter lines.

Sorry I didn't clean out the inside of the box. That was my post shooting mess..

The good thing about these homemade boxes is you can cut and alter as much as you like to fit the needs of what you are shooting. Changing the paper color inside, etc.
