You've just listed a few of the elements that go in to composition. What I tell others is that the reason that photography is an art and not a science is b/c while the rules of composition are generally true, it's not possible to follow all of them (b/c they're internal contradictory) and b/c sometimes if you break the rules you have a more successful and powerful photo. But these rules help us to understand composition. Otherwise you've got people saying "I like this photo!" "Why?" "I don't know--I just do!" But by understanding composition, we can understand WHY it grabs us and what the photographer did that resulted in such a powerful composition.

Something inside tells me you would benefit from a good book on composition. There are plenty on Amazon.

I prefer 19th century books. They're much better, not all embroiled in idiotic and wrong rules, and they're free. Download from google books.
