#1 and #2 are terrific. The sky in #2 is brilliant. #3 and #4 do not work for me, given the mood of the other two and your title "gloom" they seem a bit too pretty.

what's up with the sky in 1 and 2? i see all kinds of lines there, is that from a "save for web"?
