So after a couple of years of figuring out what i truly love to shoot it is now time to add to my kit lens

I really enjoy doing cityscape and landscape pictures. My cityscape pictures are usually taken between 20mm and 34mm. I also wanted a prime since i have a one year old and a ton of family so while I don't really like doing portraits it is still something I want to do so i can record my daughters life in digital as well as my parents and in-laws who are getting on in age.

For me it was between

Prime - Nikon 50mm f1.8 or Nikon 35mm f1.8
Wide Angle Zoom - Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 10-24mm

I would want one prime lense and one wide angle zoom.

or do you guys think it is a better idea to just keep my 18-55VR, add a prime and buy a SB-600? Just don't know what direction to go in. Thanks (I have a D90)

What about something like the Sigma 17-50 mm f2.8 os, sounds like it would cover most of your wants at a reasonable price. You'd still have a good walkaround lens and would have better low light performance.

From your description it doesn't sound like a wide angle is needed but i've read lot's of good things about the Tokina 11-16mm.

I would choose the 35mm over the 50mm. Outside either would work, but inside you could have a bit of trouble. @ 50mm you will find yourself in cases where you may not have enough room to work around. I use my 35 about 90% of the time for anything and I really dont have much trouble with room. Also I would avoid buying an off brand lens, most of the time the quality is just not there, you would benefit from the sb-600.

Even my tripod isn't the best. I think i'm going to go with the following...just makes more sense.

Nikon 35mm f1.8
Nikon SB-600
Used Manfrotto Tripod and Head

Then i'll start considering other lenses...

Opinions?

I'd recommend SLIK over Manfrotto for the legs personally. I know I'll get flamed to death for that one but it's my honest opinion.

I have the SLIK 700DX Pro and Manfrotto 488 midi ball head, absolutely love the combo.
