Any idea on the story behind the trees? Were they fenceposts at one time?

I've seen some similar posts in photos taken near the Bonneville Salt Flats racing venue, but I believe those were telephone/telegraph poles that had been cut down.

This looks completely different.

those look like juniper, and are (were) probably fence posts.

Its old fence posts on the south west side of Antelope Island.
