Next time you are shooting into a bright sky at a bird, give yourself a +.67 EV. It might sound odd, but it "lights" up the bottom of the bird without blowing out the sky or the BG. This is a cropped but otherwise unedited RAW file.

Very nice shot, unusual to see a heron in mid flight, they're usually snapped landing/taking off or hunting
