Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Completely and totally new to this whole thing, and a little nervous about it - not gonna lie.

:)

I think in this photo I should have made the focal point the Squier Fender, but I still think it turned out nice.

Playing around in Old Sacramento.

Just a simple moment.

I think this is one of my favs.

A smaller aperture would make the picture stronger for #1. Everything else looks good to me, also I know where #2 is! Greetings from Sacramento :P

These are a decent start, thanks for posting! I think they're a little too disparate and random to really get much feedback, but I'll do what I can:
  1. You're right, it would have looked better with the focus a bit farther back.
  2. It's hard for me to find a focal point in this one - my eye kind of wanders a bit. What was it about this that made you want to take a picture? Be aware of clipping of small parts of whole objects. Usually this happens with photos of people, and the result is hands, feet, and tops of heads being cut off, but the same applies to other objects as well. You don't necessarily always need to have the whole object in the frame, but when you almost have it all in the frame and only miss it by a corner or something, it can make it feel too tight. Now, if the object in question is not part of the subject of your photo then it might not be as much of a consideration...
  3. This would be an example of parts being cut off where it looks intentional instead of accidental, so that's okay. People photos should always have the eyes in focus, and they're a little soft here, probably 'cause the subject wasn't holding nice and still for you. :)
  4. Okay here again, there are parts clipped off - the larger circle in the back and the smaller circle up front (the opening). I think this shot could have been aimed a bit lower to get the entire opening in the shot, with all the dirt and such in it, disregarding the rear circle entirely. That would basically tell the viewers, this is the important part of the photo, because it's the part that's whole. The current framing leaves me searching for a subject again.
  5. Eh, not bad. Clipped the guitar off just a smidge at the bottom though. :sexywink: Again, you have to decide what the subject is - is it his face as he concentrates on the guitar? Move the composition up to include his whole head. Is it his fingers as he frets and plucks the guitar strings? Move the composition down to get the whole guitar body in the frame. Otherwise I think it's fairly well composed.
Now, about that color cast... is that intentional? All of these photos have a very green/cyan cast to them that really doesn't help them out, in my opinion. It's actually rather distracting to me and I had to restrain myself from pointing it out on each individual photo. It also makes it hard to determine how well these shots were exposed.

Keep shooting, and I look forward to seeing more of your work! If you keep an open mind and don't get defensive at the critiques you receive, you'll learn a lot from this site. :)

P.S. - I've found that threads posted after 10pm PST tend to need a bump in the morning, or they just fall off the front page and get ignored. :-P

^Great advice in the post above^.

For someone who is completely new to photography I think you are doing really well. You are obviously trying out different things and it is good that you are looking at your photos and working out what you would have done differently.

Thank you all! In these next few weeks I will really watch that I am getting my whole focal point and not clipping. As far as the color edit - I have always been a fan of the vintage and retro feel. I am just scratching the surface of CS3 after stepping away from Photoshop for several years. So as my photography grows - so will my editing skills.
