Guitarist promo shot (50/1.2L)

Hi guys,

One of the guitarists in my band needed a promotional picture with his new Ibanez guitar and asked me if I could do the honours. We're currently touring Australia so I had him set up next to a window backstage at the Annandale in Sydney, against a wall papered with Asian newspapers. Pretty happy with the results given the ghetto setup!

Any comments welcome!

Number one, that's a seriously awesome shot, are those bareknuckle pickups?

I think it's a little tight too and I'm not a big fan of the faded processing, but it's nice lighting.

He seems a little awkward.

I think its because his neck is protracted back a bit.

Definitely too tight, and I like tight crops.

I think its because his neck is protracted back a bit.

I think that probably has something to do with it. He just has that "so you want me to stand like this?" kinda look with that stance

I agree with a little too tight.

BUT.. I love the background. It kinda flows with the pickups! Killer guitar too. Overall nice photo, just needs a bit more breathing room on the sides.

Personally, I feel the crop is a bitt too tight on the sides... In particular the head of the guitar is too close to the edge.

Thanks for the comments guys, I've updated the image with a slightly wider crop and some detail adjustments. As far as the pose goes, I should point out that the guitar is the real focus of the shot, and it was important that his hands not obscure it.

I also edited a square format shot, not sure which I prefer at this point:

Height of the original is good, but I still don't like the width of the second edit. . I would go 2:3 maybe.

That, or keep it in portrait, just add room to each side of the original.

Yeah, first it was cropped too tight at the sides now too tight at the top...

Other than the crop: I doubt you have the option... but the vertical crop of the first one and the horizontal crop on the second would probably work very well together....

I quite like the image. I'm mot the biggest fan of the colors. But that is highly a personal thing... And I am what they call "color deficient" so I'm not the one to judge that pount.

Again, this is my personal C&C... I am by no means an expert. So take it as you will.
