Happy Birthday Popeye

Don't miss it! Popeye's birthday is January 17th. Popeye originated in Chester Illinois from the pen of Chester native E. C. Segar. Chester remembers and the town is peppered with granite statues of the comic strip's characters; Wimpy in the park, The Hag at McDonalds etc. At the entrance to town as you cross the Mississippi from Missouri there's a Visitor's center and bronze statue of Popeye.
