Took apart an old Hard Drive today

the first and third are awesome!

I really like the third one. Its a great angle and really captures the essensce of a HD. I think a little more DOF would have made it perfect although I know its hard when your doing those macro shots.

What lens did you use and how far away were you?

I agree on the first and third, they are incredibly sharp! Very nice!

The lens used was a Nikkor 28-105 Macro. The first image was about 8 inches away and the third one I was about 3-4 inches. I used a SB-80 bounced into an unbrella and a white board for reflecting light.

Once you're done photographing it, the really big permanant magnet makes an excellent fridge magnet. Make sure you don't throw it out, you can hold 20 pages or more easily.
