Harmonizing ambient light with OCF

^^^ Holy ****! Ask and I shall receive, eh?.....

hehehe..... just messing about. It was more for me than you, but you gave a good reason to go ahead with the idea. A lot of the $hit I shoot is for my learning purposes only. If some of it rubs off, that makes me happy. Otherwise, I still shoot the stupid $hit that helps me learn a bit.

And this is what you need to do. Eventually, you'll know about what power and distance to put the flashes and where to but additional modifiers so that you can go out there, take a photo and be done with it. If you're shooting for clients, you're not necessarily going to have the time to experiment and try and get everything right while they wait. Also, you're not going to want to be seen fumbling around, it may detract from their confidence in you and their mood.

If you have 2 flashes you can try cross lighting like this

You wanna impress clients? There are two things that do it: a compendium lens hood on the camera, and a big, sophisticated flash meter actually being used. Nothing says anally retentive, technically-driven shooter more than a compendium hood and a modern, sophisticated flash meter.

I don't have any clients, nor feel the need to impress anyone (yet... I'm sure that will come)...... I just want to go take pictures.

Depending on the weather tonight, I might just hit the stone arch bridge if I can find a willing victim... er... I mean model.

That's kinda what I've been doing lately, practicing from when I get to the "location" (sometimes it's pretend), unpack, setup and preliminary checks to the point I'm ready to start shooting. I figure this is only positive because at some point, it will be for real and I want to hit the ground running.

I will be practising at a real ale bar in about 1 hour and doing some elbow flexes and staggering home
