I understand Cavan Images will be buying the copyright to images I decide to sell, but what exactly does that mean?
Cavan Images will be the sole copyright holder of any image you decide to sell to us. This means that you will not be able to license or resell these images, or similar images, on your own - However, you may still use the pictures for your own self-promotion and fine-art needs.
What are "Fine-art" uses?
We allow you to retain the right to use any images we may purchase from you as fine-art objects. This fine-art usage is defined as 'Limited Edition, Numbered Prints'. This would also include the use of your work in a fine-art book where any image(s) itself is the subject
What are considered proper 'Self-Promotional' Uses?
You have the right to use any images we purchase from you for any self-promotional needs like; your website, print portfolio, marketing mailings, business cards, editorial articles about you and your work etc... As long as you're using the image to draw attention to your business as a photographer that's fine.
