HDR step by step?

Ive looked around a while and cant seem to find a "step by step" tutorial on how to produce an HDR image. Im looking for a step by step basic instructions from everything from 1. How to take the photos and how many? ...and 2. how to properly post edit the images into an HDR image using a general photo editing software such as GIMP or PS.

Any suggestion?....or can someone point me in the right direction
