I have yet to see the Northern Lights ... too much of a Southerner.
One day I gatta see them, take a train up the Polar Express.

I've seen them only once, some years ago when I was eastbound on I-80 in western Nevada. I first noted the aurora shortly after midnight.
That part of Nevada has no light pollution at all, so it was pretty spectacular.

Unfortunately I did not have time to stop and make any photographs. I had to get to Wendover, UT on the Nevada, Utah border.
All I could do was watch the show in repeated glimpses out the drivers side window.
