Photos NOT OK to edit
I'm sorta new to photography. I'm 14, and I have owned 2 cameras total for aircraft photography. I have used the Canon Powershot A2500, and now I have a Nikon Coolpix B500. The B500 is 300% better :D. I've been spotting without using a camera since I was 5.

Now I'm saving up for a DSLR. I have my mind set on either the D300, D300s, or possibly the D7000 if I have enough money saved. I'm most likely getting the D300/D300s.

I definitely have set my mind on the 70-300VR, but I don't know if I should get the Nikkor 70-300VR or the Tamron 70-300VR. What should I get?

How much better is the D300/D300s than my B500? Any increase in image quality? I can provide a few of my B500 photos if needed. I really need some help in order to make a decision! I also prefer the D300 series, as they are weather proof, and bigger than my B500.

Any help is appreciated!

Here's one of my most favorite photos that I have taken with my B500:

Welcome to TPF! I think the Nikon and Tamron 70-300 stabilized lenses are tied for votes; we've discussed the choice between the two in a thread or two here before, and it seemed like about a 50-50 split for each brand. I went with the Nikon mostly because I got a used one at a very good deal.

The NEW 70-300 AF-P will work only on the very, very newest Nikon camera bodies, but according to Thom Hogan's web review, is actually a better lens optically than the now decade-old 70-300 VR lens.
