Newbie here :) Get ready for loads of questions as I make my way around the site lol :blushing:

I have some photo's that I want to have printed and I have a frame to fit 10x12.
This is probably a really silly question here, but I wanted to know if that meant 10 inches across and 12 down.

I can't find many online places who accommodate this size. I did find one but it said 12x10 does that matter? Will they do it 'portrait' way up?

Love photography, I think it's so beautiful but I've never really done it for 'love' of it, just to catch moments in our family life like Christmas etc, but I would like to take photo's of some nice landscapes etc.

Thank you in advance and apologies if this is a really dumb question

a frame can be turned vertical or horizontal...

is this a real question?

The frame doesn't matter. It can hang either in landscape or portrait orientation.

And yes, it is a real question. I've seen people in the hardware store tell the sales help they need a 24 x 20 furnace filter, not a 20 x 24.

lol - yes it was a real question. I know it probably sounds very silly.

Thank you though to you both :D
That's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure to be on the safe side :)

The convention is to always state the width first. So in the portrait orientation it would be a 10x12 and in the landscape orientation it would be a 12x10.

12x10 (10x12) is an odd-ball print aspect ratio, so it's no surprise you're finding few labs that can have it as a standard offering.

You could use image editing software to put the photo on a 10x15 canvas and then trim it to 10x12 after it is printed. Some labs may do the trimming for you at no additional cost. That is how custom size (aspect ratio) prints are made.

How to order custom size prints
Our printers will only print to the aspect ratio of our standard print sizes. You will need to crop your image to our standard sizes before uploading to ensure the correct cropping is done. If you have images that are not sized to our standard print sizes, you will need to place them on a canvas in Adobe Photoshop to get the desired size. Example: a 14x30 image would be placed on a 20x30 canvas (white border) in Photoshop to get the custom print size. Please use the text tool in Photoshop and write in the white border "please trim print" to alert our technicians to trim the image for you. Trimming is only available on print sizes 12x18 and larger.
