Hi,

I wanted to know if anyone could give me some tips regarding shooting with Infrared film. I will be using a Canon AE1 or a Leica M3 and a Mamiya RB67 Pro S.

Any and all tips/help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Everyone!!!

Below is a link to where you can see the film I would be using:

The M3 is ideal for shooting IR film because you don't have to peer through the deep or very deep red filter that you will probably use with the Rollei/Agfa-Gevaert IR film to get the best IR effects. The Rollei film isn't sensitive as far into the IR as Kodak High-Speed IR film is (was), so the deeper IR filters aren't much use. There's a good pdf on the Mahn site. That's better info than I have personally, because they have used the film with more filters than I have. I've only used the B+W 092 with that film.

Best,
Helen

Thank you so much! I'm going to read that PDF now! Just wondering if I need to use a filter?? Like I said I have no experience with it. I was just going to pop it in and shoot. So I guess I should ask, if I need to concern myself with shooting times. Such as morning, mid afternoon or evening/night shots. Because it's infrared, should I treat it any more special than I should treat my regular film?

Thanks so much!!
Daniel

First ... you will need a filter.
If you want to capture Infrared wavelengths only you want to filter out the visible light.
Infrared & UV Photography

You cannot use your light meter as it is calibrated for visible light.
The Data Sheet for the Infrared film you buy should have some recommended exposure settings. Bracket a lot !!!

Your camera/lenses are calibrated to focus visible light, so you need to change the focus for Infrared wavelengths ... back in the days of film, a number of lenses had a focus mark for Infrared ... so focus slightly short of the visible light focus point (if I remember correctly).
