Help me, filming troubles.

I've just bought the Canon EOS 550d (or Rebel T2i or something in the states). I bought it mostly because I want to make shortmovies. I'm a beginner by the way.

The still photos I have taken so far are stunning. However, the filmcapturing has proven troublesome. I have a 8 gb, class 10 memorycard at the moment. When i filmed at max resolution it just stopped filming, and at 720p and 60fps I can film without problems, however, when I am to watch it on my computer it's totally laggy and the picture quality is far from great.

Do you suppose this is because of some hardware issues on my computer (a not too old one, but not the latest) or may it be the memory card or even perhaps my own incompetence? (hoping for the last one, cheapest to sort out ;-) )

You have not described weither you have tried playing it back on the camera.
If it plays back smooth on the camera, it's either a software- or hardware problem on the computer.
If it plays back laggy on the camera, you can rule out the computer, and it is either a memory problem, camera problem or an user error.
If it is software on the computer, try installing VLC media player and try playing it again.
If it's hardware on the computer, upgrade relevant hardware or the entire computer.
If it's memory problem, buy a new one.
If it's a camera problem, get the camera serviced at a Canon service center.
If it's user error, read the manual section on video recording
