no clue if this is the right forum but

i currently own a d40 and am strongly considering buying the d50. sole purpose is the use of nikon prime lenses. what advantages of the d40 will i lose, or is it totally worth it. your input is helpful.

Ditch the D40... and pick up the new D60. You're so limited in the lenses you can use with the D40. With a D60 at least you can begin to invest your money in great glass. When I shoot, I shoot almost everything between my 50 1.4 and my 85 1.4, and if Nikon would ever come out with a 35 1.4 that would be my next purchase.

Good luck. I wonder why they axed the 28mm f/1.4 :cry: Sigma has a 35mm f/1.4 but it's very mediocre in sharpness.

You wouldn't lose anything with an upgrade... except some money. Don't go for a D50 the step is small and it is not money well spent. I would look towards a D60 as well or consider getting second hand D2x / D200s which are plentiful now.

weird. id read the d60 isn't really much better than the d40

also, i really just want to have a focus motor in camera. thats my whole reason of considering a d50....

Ahem AI-S. The mere existence of a lens does not make it a good choice. APS cameras are simply a pain to manually focus. This would be a nice mix to go with a replaced focusing screen though!
