help shooting basket ball indoors?

hi all,

just wondering if someone can give me some pointers on shooting my sons basketball games indoors, with the equipment i have. i have read that i needed to turn the ISO right up, turn on Auto White Balance (AWB), and open your aperture as wide as possible? (not sure how to do this?). the photos seem to be very fuzzy (i think you call in noise?)

I have attached a photo with a screen shot of the exif information.

I have a SONY A57
Lens 3.5-5.6/18-135 SAM
Lens DT55-300mm F4.5-5.6 SAM
Lens DT35mm F1.8 SAM

Yes you want the ISO up but not 16000. You also want the f stop to be as open as possible which means a lower number. You also want to increase your shutter speed to 640 or higher. Not trying to be rude but if you arent sure of settings dont shoot manual. Try f4, 1/640, 4000 ISO.

Well, there is no wind to deal with, so just keep your elbow in using your left hand as the guide hand and when you release, flick your wrist at the top of the shot releasing the ball. Swish

I disagree. If you aren't sure, learn. Take some time now to learn how to shoot in manual. It's not that hard. By learning how ISO, aperture and shutter speed affect the image you'll understand what needs to be ajusted to get the type of shot you desire the next time out.
