Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Greetings,

I'm looking to buy a new camera, but have pretty basic photography knowledge, so bear with me. I'm mainly looking to start basketball and baseball pictures, for personal reasons (and to print most as 8x10s or 11x14s). With my main focus as sports photography, I'm not sure which features I should be looking for...

Update: Thoughts On This?

Wow, didn't see how unreasonable that was, hahaha. Thanks for the responses so far. Anyway, my uncle was getting rid of some stuff and offered me his Canon xti like this one: Amazon.com: Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black): Camera & Photo along with other lenses and equipment. Would this one be better for taking sports photos of baseball and basketball? Sorry, if this is another stupid thought haha.

If I've seen one $200 P&S...then I've seen them all.

Hi Nick, don't want to spoil your hopes but for 200 dollars you probably will be disappointed with the results when doing sport photography. I'm not very familiar with the P&S-ranges but you will at least need a lot of optical zoom to get 'close' to the action. But again, for this budget don't expect professional looking shot.

You may need to spend close to a thousand for a good dslr if you want good results. :)

If you just want results commensurate with your experience level then a $200 P&S will probably be sufficient. If you are going to expect exceptional results then it is not. If all it took to shoot sports events and get outstanding photographs was an inexpensive P&S camera then the guys from Sports Illustrated wouldn't be walking around festooned with $10,000 worth of equipment.

You are going to get what you pay for. If you have high expectations then you may be disappointed. If not then you may be satisfied. That said you could also spend $1k on a DSLR and still be disappointed since I have never seen knowledge and ability packaged with any camera sold.

the camera should be fine for taking sport shots, as long as you have good timing for your shutter finger. you will need a more telephoto lens however, 18-55 will not do (unless you plan to capture the entire field)
