Just give him some options

1. lend you an F5 while your camera is being repaired
2. take your camera back and give you a new one
3. give your money back so you can go to a reputable camera dealer

I just went through the same problem w/ my pentax istd (well sort of, thd internel flash died a week after getting it) The guys in my camera shop, who are great and real friendly made it seem like it wasn't really in their control. He had to talk to pentax to see what they could do. Pentax said he had to send them the camera to check it out. They sent a replacement (I won't tell you how long it took)

If you get any crap from the guy drop some heavy hints about your friend "Guido".
Works best if you have a double breasted suit and a fedora.
