Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Hello all... newbie to this site. Somewhat newbie to the world of photography. I have a D5100 and was taking images this past weekend. Shot them in RAW, outside images in a large file size. However when I uploaded them for prints, some of the images seemed "grainy" after very minor edits in CSE-6. I used the 55-200mm lense. Any suggestions?

You might want to post one or two with the EXIF data - generally if your shots are "grainy" the usual culprit is that they were shot at a higher ISO, which introduces sensor noise. That is most likely what you are seeing.

^^^ What he said - high ISO = grain. Could be an easy fix!

And of course... Welcome!

ISO was at 200; F/6.3; 1/160 sec; 42mm focal point;max aperture: 4.8; metering: pattern; No flash. This is resized so it would attach. When I uploaded it to a print site.. it also looked grainy & just not as clear as it should look being its a larger file size? Again.. newbie here... not sure what all Im missing :(

Hard to be certain with the smaller photo but I'm not really seeing a lot of noise here, nothing noticeable at any rate. You might want to contact the print site itself, my best guess is that they are most likely automatially resizing the image when it's uploaded, which is introducing what appears to be noise. This would most likely be because their final aspect ratio is not the same as what is being uploaded. Find out what size you should be uploading and resize the images to fit their aspect ratio, hopefully that will do the trick.

Thanks robbins. I keep thinking maybe I have the file size set too large.. or not to the right setting maybe? Still reading & watching a ton on this camera.. but thought maybe there was just something I was missing that was a "go to setting" for when taking portraits... not even necessarily for this image but just in general. Thanks!

Nope, no one end all be all setting for perfect portraits everytme unfortunately. I shoot most of mine with either a 50 mm 1.8 AFS-G or an 85 mm 1.8 AFS-G, I find both to be excellent portrait lenses. But the settings I use will vary widely based on lighting conditions, whether or not I want a sharp in focus background or one that is blurred and seperated from the subject, etc.
