Shutter speed was too slow on all of these to stop motion, that's where your blurriness comes from. In a situation like this, shooting in shutter priority mode, I think that's "S" on Nikons, works better.
Yep way too slow for any kind of movement. You should probably had at least 1/200th to freeze them. I live pretty close to you. I live over in Gun Lake (BTW Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo off 131.) Was this Saturday? I was going to head up to the last day of Tulip Time, but the rain convinced me otherwise, same thing last year!!
I live in Grand Rapids, 30 miles from the Gun Lake Casino. I grew up in Holland though. Yes it was Saturday night, I took my nephew, and luckily the rain slowed down some but it was cold.. brrr. I didn't stick around for the stands like I wanted. Also I went last week Friday I think, and I tripped on a wire and dropped my food lol no luck this year with Tulip Time.
I just went to the gun lake casino for the first time Friday evening, won almost 500 (which is rare to even walk out of any casino with anything other than empty pockets for me!) So I used the winnings and bought a bunch of new photo gear! I am happy.
Judging from those settings the light level must have been pretty low. In this situation you would have had to up your ISO to 400 or 640 or maybe even 800 to get the necessary shutter speeds.
Welll I went to Marks Photo in GR first, got a reflector arm. Then off to Norman Camera, I was trying to buy a boom arm, out of stock...then a honeycomb grid for a 7" strobe reflector, not in GR but in Kalamazoo....So I drive all the way to Kzoo, not there either. Not happy so far after burning through 20.00 just in gas. Got home, looked on Graigs list and saw an ad for a pawn shop that bought out a retired photographers studio, drove up to Grand Haven, Picked up 4 posing stills, a Manfrotto Ball Head, Some velux fabrics for putting little munchkins on or covering the stools. Then came home and ordered 3 strobes, grids, gels, barn doors, the boom arm, and a remote release. It was a long day! Yes, I do sessions in GR, and Kalamazoo.
