Holy Week in the Philippines

Since I am part-Filipino, I visited the Philippines during their holy week celebration. While walking on the streets of Angeles City, A group of flagellants passed by us. I took a photo of them.

Wonder if those wounds hurt.

They are called 'mandarame' in the Filipino language!

I don't get it. The pictures are way too small to tell what's going on, even the enlarged version. It looks like a bad sunburn?

The guys here hit themselves until they bleed using what they call 'palaspas'. It is a Filipino tradition. Sorry if my picture was too small.

Born and raised in the Philippines and ive seen this when I was a little kid. They would walk and whip their back from one town to the next as a sacrifice kind of thing.
