This photograph was taken in Maine. Let me know what you think.

Use tripod, small aperture, slower shutter, focus at the central rock and crop off the dry rock at bottom.

Hmmmm.....unfortunately waterfalls start to look all the same....=) If you don't have something over the top interesting about them, they are just blah. There is nothing wrong w/ your shot, it is just missing that extra something. That extra something might be amazing lighting, drama (something exceptional about this waterfall) or color. Keep shooting!! Welcome to the forum!!

Okay thanks guys. This picture was actually taken with a disposable camera. I have been taking pictures for a long time and have never really showed them before. Now that I'm trying to get out onto my own and turn my passion into a career, figured I would get some pointers. Thanks again!

If you want to turn your passion into a career you'll have to start learning the technical aspects of doing photography:
  • the exposure triad - lens aperture, shutter speed, ISO.
  • focus modes
  • metering modes
  • photographic lighting
  • image editing
  • image file management
  • image color management
  • file types
  • printing
Then there are the artistic aspects of doing photography:
  • framing
  • form
  • line
  • shape
  • mood
  • color
  • texture
  • value
  • space
  • contrast
  • rhythm
  • proportion
  • viewpoint
  • symmetry
  • simplification

The photo is under exposed and 'muddy'. and as mentioned the immediate foreground is a bit distracting. I cropped, corrected the exposure, increased the midtone contrast, cloned out the flat rock on the right, burned a bit here and there, and added a thin black border:

I'm impressed by how you turned that around! Not very experienced with PS myself. Out of interest... how long did that take you?

Nice cleanup.... pretty amazing! :)

Oh wow. It looks so much better. I'm still going to school for graphic design and photography. I'm only into my first year of school and still learning the basics. But I do know this is what I want to do. It will take some time to learn. Anyway, thanks

Actual editing time, about 2 minutes, using CS5 Camera Raw and the regular CS5 working space. I didn't hurry.

The key edit was, and quite often is, manipulating the mid-tone contrast.
