Hoods

Ok, one more question for today.

I have been reading many posts dealing with lens hoods. In a situation dealing with shade, such as shooting in a forest versus a sunny beach, would a hood be needed?

yup to the beach, nope to the shade.

A hood is just a shade. So if it's bright outside and sun is hitting your lens...then use a hood.

Dual hoods: one to keep the snow off my lens, one to keep the snow off of me.

Besides eliminating lens flare, I find lens hoods useful in keeping rain, snow, and spilled beer off of the lens.

I agree with matt on this. Especially the beer. I use them for some long night exp with street lights in or around the shot.
