Got my lens reversal ring in the mail today. Definitely something I'm going to have to practice with, but it's gonna be fun. :)

Both of these were shot with my 50mm f/1.4 mounted backwards.

This one was handheld at f/8:

This one was on a tripod at f/11... lots of detail in a couple of the petals but the DOF is still pretty shallow at f/11 so not much else was in focus. I also seem to have overprocessed it so the highlights have that awful gray look. Oh well, I can fix that later. :-P

Sorry, but how does this work? what is lens reversal?

you mount your lens backwards. it makes short focal length lenses act like macros.

Reverse macro photography can be pretty wicked :)

Find a spider and take some shots, they are totally cool.

is this as far as you can get from the subject?

Yeah, the one disadvantage is that your distance to subject is pretty much fixed, at least with a prime lens. Seems to be right around 3-4 inches.

Yeah I told my wife to be on the lookout for any cool bugs.

Thank you :) that is nice .. I will look for that on ebay now :)

That's where I got mine. Nice cheap way to get in to macro photography. My 50mm lens is perfect for it because it has a manual aperture ring. :) I haven't tried it with either of my zooms yet.

Here's another one I took this afternoon for my 365 project and the "vegetables" theme.
