Did you by any chance take shots of the prop planes with slower shutter speeds and pan with them so the props were blurred? That first one with the dramatic clouds would have really stood out using that technique.

I love the shot of the Raptor. For the prop planes I agree with Tony, by using a slower shutter speed, say anything under 1/200, it will blur the prop but still keep the plane pretty sharp. Attached is a shot of a Mustang taking off, ISO100, F10, 1/160. I would have liked a little more prop blur but I had a terrible lens (EF 75-300 kit lens) $Mustang.webp
I was really struggling with it on this particular day. My usual Tamron had been damaged.

Tirediron, Frequency - Thanks for the thumbs up.

Tony, Danmunro - I did try and take a few at slower shutter speeds. My panning technique, and my entire working/functional knowledge at this point is quite poor. It seems when I tried to shoot below 1/200 my shots where quite blurry, which I assume is poor panning technique.

I also notice than in continuos focus and at 8fps if the first shot was blurry then all consecutive shots were also blurry.

I am shooting a D700 - 70-200 2.8 VR II/TC-2e III - thereby giving me a 140 - 400 effective lens. The issue I fought on the field was slow focus and missed focus. I have the camera focus set to 21 points. Other than practice with my panning that is there a way to make the lens/TC combo focus faster and more accurately?

Thanks

Chris

The first one flat-out rocks. The contrast of the plane against the black sky is just beautiful.

Invisible,

Thanks - I wish he would have been low enough to get some of the fireball as well. I have some of just the Pyro and it is quite impressive.
