I may admit that even though I am acquainted to most of the camera function, I do have a problem with depth of field and would very pleased if you can help me that !

In practice, the easiest way is to use the depth of field preview button.

If your camera actually has a DoF preview button.

However, because the main mirror has to let 50% of the light the lens gathers pass through it to the auto focus system, most DSLR DoF previews are pretty dark in the viewfinder when the lens stops down to the lens aperture set for the shot, making it difficult to see the DoF.
