Have Aperture and iPhoto, any way to get rid of the roof and just have brick all the way up? I now know to step back closer and eliminate the problem to start with! Thanks for any pointers you can offer.

Not familiar with those two applications, but all you need to do is find their clone tool (or whatever it's called) and "overwrite" the roof with the bricks, or you could just copy a section of the brick wall, paste it over the roof and blend the join. Either way, it's fairly simple.

But, you'll probably want to make a selection that does not include the leaves so they stay in the shot and the edit gets done behind them.

Problem #2 is the shadow on the bricks from the roof overhang is a gradient that will be difficult to match.

Can Aperture or iPhoto do layers and precision selections?

You won't be able to do what you want with ether of those applications, you are going to need photoshop.

That said I don't that that is the issue with the photo. Seeing part of the roof does not bother me in the slightest.

The issue with the photo is that both oft he kids are not in focus. In fact nether of them are in focus. The one in back is way out of focus and the one in front is not in focus ether. This issue is not something you will be able to correct with any editing app, you gotta nail that focus in the camera.

I would be more concerned with the missed focus.

Thanks for the tips. I saw the first kid was soft but I was playing with a single point focus and that's hard with moving children. Good thing they're just for fun.
