How do you find your subjects or locations?

Greetings, everyone. I am new to photography, and I've been visiting this site for months now as it contains a wealth of information.
I'm into portraits and "vintage" photography, and I would like to ask for everyone's feedback/inputs on how they find subjects.

Sometimes friends or families just don't cut it, and you need someone that fits that person in the image that you have in mind. Or it may not even be a person...say you need a location, like an old house. How do you search for these subjects? Do you use social networks or forums such as this? Other methods you can share to a beginner like me? Thanks!

Go out and drive for a few hours, and contact a modeling agency.

If you have a smartphone take a quick pic of that location. You have your background expand from that, good luck.

Marry into hotness and move to a country that's gone downhill a bit.

Or more simply, modelmahem and buy new bedsheets. (For the background!) To be honest, if you're half-decent and got a little charm, just throw all your best on facebook and whenever you see a boy/girl/couple on the street that fits what you're looking for, tell them this straight and send them to your FB. If they're interested they can contact you.

Also check meetup.com for local photography groups. That's how I initially met a photographer that hosts a lot of glamour workshops at his studio which is in turn how I met a ton of models, which allowed me to build a portfolio, create my own ModelMayhem account, and now I have models contacting me to shoot. For me, everything started with finding a group on meetup.com
