How do you focus on lightening bolts at night?

Be careful when you set your lens manually to "infinity".... You can go too far if you just the barrel to the stops...........

Infinity is at the small L shaped icon on the barrel, and if you go beyond that you will go past the focus point.........

Lightning is also very bright, so stop down more............ It appears that your lightning may be more overexposed than it is out-of-focus........

If the bolt is closer than infinity focus distance, you won't have to worry about the focus. You and the camera will be vaporized.
