I kinda like them.
#1 could use more land
#2 i like the movement of the bird but a little confused what is going on with the horizon. Why are the lights look like you moved the camera? I am confused.
for #1 - I wanted to catch more sky on purpose to get the full effect of how far the orange highlights reached
for #2 - I was handholding, panning the camera to catch the birds as they took off from the beach

A wider angle would have been a better choice then, assuming you weren't already at your widest. A little bit more horizon would have anchored the shot. It's very pretty and I love the colors, but I think it would have worked better with horizon - and especially the sun - higher in the frame. Alternatively, crop out the land completely and just leave the sky, so it doesn't look like you accidentally got a little bit of land in your sky shot.
Yeah I got to it a little too late to get the sun high enoughBut as for the mountains, I did that on purpose to include a "little" more than just a Sunset/Cloud shot. Figured that maybe the mountains would give it more depth.

I get what you were going for, but I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like it. I think I'd like it more if it wasn't for the city lights - they draw a lot of attention. With such a simple background you could probably clone them out pretty easily, and I think it would make the photo stronger.

Okay so what you're saying is that you included the mountains intentionally. That's good, and no one's disagreeing with you there. The thing is, the closer something is to the edge of the frame, the less important it becomes to the viewer. So if you felt like the mountains were an important part of the shot, you should have included more of them, so that the viewer would feel like they're an important part of the shot as well.
Think about the rule of thirds, and remember that the eye tends to perceive things along the lines and intersections as being more visually important than things at the center or the edges, and compose your shots accordingly. You may have to sacrifice some of the sky, but it would make your shot stronger. Just because it's a landscape shot doesn't mean it doesn't need a subject - the sun could easily have been the subject in this shot if you'd aimed a little lower.
