Thanks ...I haven't seen many reviews about the built in pop-up flash on the 7D actually...is it less than stellar?

No pop-up flash is stellar; in fact their use should be avoided at all costs.

Better question would be, what are tour plans/what do you shoot? You probably won't even be able to use the benefits of an expensive body like that. You could get a lower model body and save a LOT of money and spend it on quality glass (cause the lens is WAY more important than the body)

Good glass can make better images before an expensive body will!

I'm a Nikon guy so I don't know what to recommend, but spend about a grand on the body and don't opt for a kit lens...they're junk usually. Then get some nice primes ad a 2.8 zoom and you'll be better off!

Pop-up flashes should be avoided is possible and of-course if the pop up flash is the last resource, then by all means use it but a designated flash is much much better.


The 24-105 f4 L is a beautiful lens and the price is quite nice also. the constant aperture of f4 is awesome not to mention better built, better glass and faster AF if I am not mistaken. I would definitely drop the lens you got there and get the 24-105 f4 and a flash if you can swing it. Also good glass retains value and can be used for many years to come if its well taken care of.

The package u listed will serve you quite well for some time so nothing to worry about there but consider getting a flash also.

Well the shipping will not be as expensive as taxes for many places... for example last week I bought a Blackrapid Sport-strap for 69 from US and had it shipped to Canada. With shipping and duty it was still 20$ cheaper then purchasing it from a Canadian store for 99.99 +12% HST

Now if I was in the States it would have been 19$ cheaper then what I got it for shipped

My suggestion is to seriously consider buying used. Check fredmiranda.com and POTN for some good prices on used lenses and bodies. Look into refurbished as well.

As an example the 24-105L should go for about $825-900 used, and the 50 1.4 should go for about $325-350 used.

You may find that the cost savings will allow you to get farther with your 2500 budget.

Drop the 50mm and get a flash. Also like many have said, buy used. You'll save a few hundred dollars to spend elsewhere.
