How long to DSLRs tend to last?

That's exactly what I have to tell people about my old computers! A lot of people seem to think that my 30-year-old Commodore 64 is obsolete or worthless just because it has less memory and computing power than today's wristwatches.

You can actually FIND casette tapes and tape players for data storage for those things?

Be more concerned about where you buy it than any planned obsolescence. As others have stated it will last longer if it's in good shape when you start with it.

I'll buy lenses from that auction site because very little can go wrong with a lens and if there's trouble it's most always readily apparent, but not DSLRs.

As to buying a body, if you don't know someone, try KEH.com. They have a good reputation with their used equipment (I'm a customer) and a return policy if something slips through their staff (they check their goods to assign a price to each individual piece). They also have repair techs should you find yourself in need of a repair for your camera equipment.

I still have a working cassette drive, and it takes standard audio cassettes, which are not too hard to find even today. But I prefer using 5.25" floppy disks because they are much faster and higher capacity. I actually picked up a couple packs of floppies from a Goodwill store about a year ago. I haven't used them yet, though.
